Jerabek's New Bohemian Announces...
Jerabek's New Bohemian has new owners!
Pioneer Press 01/30/2008
Jerabek's in St. Paul has been sold. The two couples who bought the 102-year-old family-run West Side bakery/deli - Ronda Vincent and Russell Spangler and John and Holly Wills - are hoping no one will notice any difference. They're keeping the name, recipes and even the baker who has been there 32 years.
"Like a lot of people, it was our dream to have a community business and get to know our neighbors," Russell Spangler said. "And we get a lot of regulars. Some days, it's like Mayberry here."
When Melissa Deyo put the family bakery up for sale last year, she said the business at 63 W. Winifred St. was important to the neighborhood and she would sell only to someone who planned to carry it on. The new owners are happy to oblige. Both couples live on the West Side and have been friends for years.
"The four of us really love the area and have been coming to Jerabek's for a long time," said Spangler, who will manage the bakery. "We have a strong motivation to keep it a community-owned business."
To mark the change of ownership, an open house is planned at Jerabek's on Feb. 10, from noon to 3 p.m. Free cake, coffee and punch will be served.
"It's kind of a get-to-know-the-new-owners-and-say-goodbye-to-Melissa celebration," Vincent said.
